Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。故事发生在一个极普通的大院里。田玉敏（黄宏 饰）和妻子离婚后，独自一人带8岁的女儿妞妞（黄豆豆 饰）生活，每当女儿问到妈妈，田玉敏谎称妈妈出差去了国外，因为妞妞不知道父母已经离婚。为了女儿感觉到家庭的完整，田玉敏央求同事耿梅（江珊 饰）帮助，一时相安无事，不料一次电话露怯，妞妞识破了大人的诡计，田玉敏只好与耿梅假扮夫妻，从此笑料迭出。因政府规划，大院一片须搬迁，天井院里没有了往日的熙嚷，只剩下80岁孤老头李爷爷（朱旭 饰）和8岁的妞妞朝夕相伴……。
