小王庄的王老大（梁庆刚 饰）人虽笨，但忠厚纯朴善良。生产队长李永绪（陈国典 饰）夫妇见他独自一人生活不易，给他张罗婚事几番不成，原因就是女方嫌他笨。三年自然灾害期间，王老大结识了携儿带女逃荒的寡妇大翠（韩桂菊 饰），在村里人冷嘲热讽中毅然与大翠成了亲。从此，王老大在大灾之年挑起了五口之家，他苦干一年，年终分红一分没有，反而欠队里几十元的口粮钱。他不忍寒冬腊月孩子们穿不上棉衣，冒着挨批斗的风险，顶着风雪上山砍柴，为得是过年时孩子们能穿上新棉衣，却不料滑下山涧摔死了。公社副主任（常文治 饰）把他的死归结为走资本主义道路的必然下场，李永绪听后实在忍不住了......。DEADFALL is a lushly photographed suspense story with a cat burglar theme, wallowing in a full bodied John Barry score--especially during the major heist involving MICHAEL CAINE's high climbing bit where he's breaking into a playboy's mansion.
